Hello!
I’m Maria, a Catholic medical student trying to follow Jesus through the highs and lows of med school, with chai in one hand and my rosary in the other.
I started The Catholic Doc as a place to be real, not just about what it’s like to live your faith in medicine, but also about how medicine itself can point us back to the deeper truths of our faith. Here, I share reflections, experiences, and conversations that sit at the intersection of science and soul; where clinical knowledge meets Catholic conviction, and where the white coat doesn’t hide the call to holiness.
This space isn’t just about my journey. It’s about building a community that asks the hard questions, wrestles with both suffering and hope, and seeks to heal not just bodies, but hearts too. Whether you’re a student, a healthcare professional, or someone curious about the connection between faith and medicine — welcome!
My Story
Truthfully, my life is a testament to how God truly has a beautiful way of leading us where we're meant to be. I’m a first-generation Indian-American, a cradle Catholic who fell in love with Jesus in middle school, and someone who’s always been drawn to both the mystery of the human body and the miracle of the human soul. For a long time, I thought I had to choose: medicine or ministry. But over time, I’ve realized that they’re not in conflict, rather they’re deeply connected.
Through seasons of grief, burnout, joy, and healing, I’ve come to see medicine as more than a profession...it’s a vocation. One that demands not just knowledge, but presence, compassion, and reverence for the dignity of every person.
The Catholic Doc was born out of this realization, that I could bring my full self into this calling: the student, the daughter of God, the future physician, the singer, the sinner, the hopeful heart. This is where I share that journey, not because I have it all figured out, but because I know I’m not the only one trying to live faithfully in the in-between.
